Event highlights included a keynote presentation from Chris Lemons, a deep-sea saturation diver who was involved in an accident which left him stranded almost 100 metres below the surface of the North Sea, with no light, heat or breathing gas. In his engaging session, which drove home the importance of Tracerco’s ‘Work Safe, Home Safe’ focus, Chris discussed the catastrophic impact of complacency and the importance of safety drills and scenario planning as well as how teamwork led to his rescue and ultimately saved his life.
The schedule of interactive and informative events and learning opportunities included inspirational guest speakers, workshops, nutrition sessions, and fitness challenges, to ensure there was something for every Tracerco global employee to engage in and enjoy. Following colleague nominations for a range of safety awards, the week concluded with the Safety Stand Down Awards being presented virtually to staff globally.
Spearheaded by Tracerco’s CEO, Jon Tate, the week-long organisation-wide Safety Stand Down event emphasises Tracerco’s commitment to the health, safety, and wellbeing of its colleagues.
Mr Tate said: “Our Safety Stand Down event is an exciting focal point for employees and a great opportunity for everyone to engage in hands-on training sessions, be reminded of best practices, and be inspired by employee presentations and purposeful guest speakers. It is essential that we continue to uphold our core value of prioritising the wellbeing and protection of both our customers and colleagues.
Tracerco’s unique and positive safety culture is underpinned by consistent diligence, positive attitudes, and hard work from our colleagues. We are deeply invested in ensuring that every team member feels safe and confident in their work environment.”
Safety Stand Down week, which received highly positive feedback from employees, invests in the long-term health and wellbeing of Tracerco’s workforce, and all employees are encouraged to actively participate in the event and make safety a priority in their daily work.
The programme also included an informative presentation from Dave Sanderson, the survivor of “The Miracle on the Hudson”. As the last passenger off US Airways Flight 1549, which had to land on the river after losing engine power, he shared the lessons and coping skills he learned from his experience.
In addition to external guest speakers, several Tracerco colleagues also shared their personal experiences and discussed different aspects of safety, including the importance of planning, being aware of your own ability, promoting mental health awareness and dealing with epilepsy.
