Comparison of solid tracer technology with a production logging tool in a maturing oil production well

Maturing oilfields are often characterised by increased water production. This results in costly water treatment and reduced oil processing capacity. Identifying the source of excessive water production and mitigating for its impact is critical during field development in reducing costs and maximising oil production. An operator, developing a large onshore field in the Middle East, requested we deploy solid polymer inflow tracer technology in their wells to measure the presence and position of water production over time. The operator wished to test the accuracy of tracer technology against more conventional production logging tool (PLT) data in order that they could reduce costs and their dependency on PLT moving into the future.
